34,000Workers needed to meet MA's climate goals
Social Finance is partnering with the Healey Administration on the first-in-the-nation Massachusetts Climate Careers Fund: an outcomes-based workforce fund designed to fill climate workforce gaps, increase access to economic mobility for workers, and support a diverse workforce.
Massachusetts has ambitious goals to achieve Net Zero by 2050. To achieve the Commonwealth’s greenhouse gas reduction mandates, Massachusetts needs to train an additional 34,000 workers for climate sector jobs.
The Fund will support residents of Massachusetts who are unemployed, underemployed, or otherwise qualify as low-income, with an added focus on individuals from underrepresented communities in the climate workforce and environmental justice communities. Additionally, the Climate Careers Fund will support career advancement by providing upskilling training opportunities for entry-level workers and current fossil fuel workers to gain new green career skills to advance to in-demand roles with higher wages.
The Fund may partner with a wide range of high-quality education and training providers across the Commonwealth to train workers, including: community colleges, vocational and technical schools, private institutions, unions, and community-based organizations.
