Ian Simmons

Ian Simmons is Co-Founder and Principal of Blue Haven Initiative, a family office dedicated to investing for-profit and non-profit capital to solve social problems. BHI is currently focused on new opportunities in emerging markets as well as the United States.

Ian also initiates projects that enhance democracy. Results of projects that Ian has catalyzed have been featured in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Los Angeles Times, and The Washington Post, as well as on CBS, NBC, ABC, and CNN.

Most recently, Ian started the National Study of Learning, Voting and Engagement (NSLVE), now based at Tufts University. It is the first national research project to measure voting rates of college students on a campus-by-campus basis. It has been launched for one year and already serves over 250 institutions.

Ian serves on the boards of Fund for the Republic, the Youth Engagement Fund, and Karibu Homes, an affordable housing company in Kenya. He graduated with honors from Harvard College in 2000. Ian lives in Cambridge, Massachusetts with his wife, Liesel.
