Founded in 2018, Blackstar is a Black-owned and -led real estate investment management firm that is investing capital focused on supporting and preserving homeownership, housing stability, and wealth building for low- and moderate-income homeowners.

Blackstar helps borrowers refinance out of predatory home loans that charge high interest rates and preclude borrowers from owning their homes. Their fund acquires pools of these loans and converts them into traditional mortgages or equitable contracts for deeds, enabling borrowers to build equity as homeowners.

The Social Finance team was thoughtful and committed in their due diligence in a way that was atypical in the world of fund investing. Their investment and support led us to secure commitments from other investors and helped us to reach our target fund size and maximize our impact. Since their investment, the Social Finance team has been a thought partner and has contributed to the advancement of our work beyond their allocation of capital.
