HEAR FROM DEVON
Alchemy Code Lab, a coding school based in Portland, OR, sought to increase diversity in the technology sector, particularly for people of color, women, and LGBTQIA+ individuals. Before enrolling in Alchemy’s program, Devon worked a variety of entry-level jobs. Devon was interested in coding but wasn’t sure how to start anew.
Everything changed when they learned about Alchemy. Through a partnership with Social Finance, Alchemy’s Career Impact Bond helped to eliminate financing barriers for learners seeking to enroll in its 25-week, full-time software engineering training. The Career Impact Bond covered upfront tuition costs and, even provided the option to finance living expenses. Learners like Devon did not have to repay program costs if they didn’t find a good-paying job.
Buoyed by the support of the Career Impact Bond and living expense financing, Devon quit their job and enrolled in Achlemy’s training program. They landed a job as an Associate Consulting Engineer, Software Development, at CDW, an information technology company. Most importantly, they achieved a significant salary increase. They now have a stable career with clear paths to progression.
What was really heartening about the Career Impact Bond was if this all goes wrong, I’m protected.DEVON, ALCHEMY CODE LAB CAREER IMPACT BOND GRADUATE
